I think this is my first post here...These are the cards and bandanas I am working on for my gumboot dance troupe leaders. (Gumboot is a dance that originated in the mines of South Africa during apartheid) We wear bandanas when we perform so I got a lot of practice doing rolled hems and sewed up a bunch and stenciled africa (where gumboot started), Vancouver Island (where we live), and the stickman gumboot dancer from our t-shirts. Hope you like!

I've been cutting and pasting (old school) and creating book marks which I hope to sell this summer along with some other crafty creations...
here's what they look likeCollapse )

My first knitting project was a scarf for my better half; my second, a blanket for my kid. I really hate following patterns, and I am not fond of much complexity beyond basic knit stitch... so I tend to just wing it using whatever wool I scrounge from thrift shops.
photos and more after the cut...Collapse )

I've finished the body (and hood) of my Rogue.

Here she is:

I haven't blocked it yet (doing that today) so the edges are curling in.
I'm going to take a break before I do the sleeves.

I've also started my poncho.
The wool is lovely. It's just like the wool for Cowichan sweaters, bulky and homespun-looking.
I am so sad they discontinued it. I think I'll write a letter to the company.

My progress:

It will be a rectangle, but the needle I'm using is smaller that the width, so I can't lay it out flat to photograph. The bottom is curling, but that will be fixed once I'm done knitting.

I finished knitting my Ravenclaw scarf! All in all it took me 3 weeks to finish.

I wish I had a digital camera so I could take pictures. This was my first knitting project ever. I actually learned a lot about yarn making this scarf. When I went to Beehive I just picked yarn according to colours I liked. However once I was done my scarf I realised that I should have read the yarns more closely... because one colour was 100% acryllic and the other colour was 100% wool and so the stripes are a litte wonky... but I'm proud of it anyway because it's the first thing I've ever made for myself.

I've already begun another scarf with the same pattern, however both colours are a 75%/25% acryllic/wool blend and I'm not doing HP colours for this scarf, just using the same pattern. I'm making one for my mom for Christmas out of a deep plum colour and a cream colour.

:D whee! knitting!

PS: It's a total coincidence that I finished my scarf the day that PoA came out on DVD. TOTAL coincidence. *whistles innocently*
